I staggered into the surgery at 09.30 - early, for once. They have a neat new touch screen computer (designed to remove human elements: such as sympathy) enabling you to check in for your appointment.
The doctor is new - to me anyway, and a woman. Luckily, women have sore throats too. If it had been anything more 'personal', I might have run for the hills.
So ... I have a bacterial infection of the throat, and have to take 500mgs of Penicillin VK four times a day.
This doesn't bode well for the gig I'm playing this sunday. :(

Sounds like a strep throat (caused by the streptococcal bacteria), which generally does not go away on its own. I had a bad case of it in 1992 and remember it well .... a very miserable time, and I can't imagine trying to sing while it was going on. I could barely eat or talk.
I'm glad you're getting it taken care of.
Hmm. Does M sing at all?
Or could you do the numbers a la Bonnie Tyler? All throaty and emotional.
Two of the last three times I've sung on stage I had a cold with sore throat. Fortunately, the sound systems were so awful and the audiance so drunk, no one noticed.
Strangely: before I was told I had a 'bleeding throat that was producing pus' The sore throat would only be bad in the morning and 'fade away' during the day. Now I know I'm 'ill' my throat is vying for as much sympathy as it can get.
M does sing - harmonies, and he's as croaky as I am ... The gig should be brilliantly interesting *chortle*
