I finished on track at 28,411 words. 'Harvest Time' is definitely going in a different direction. However I'm pleased, as I've never tried anything quite like this before.
It's sitting on my desktop, and I promise to read it just as soon as there's a spare hour. In the meantime, I've stumbled upon something that might take up one of your spare hours: The Bulwar-Lytton Fiction Contest for Bad Writing.
This year's winning entry:
“Gerald began--but was interrupted by a piercing whistle which cost him ten percent of his hearing permanently, as it did everyone else in a ten-mile radius of the eruption, not that it mattered much because for them “permanently” meant the next ten minutes or so until buried by searing lava or suffocated by choking ash--to pee.”

Very interesting ... M'Lord. ;)
BTW, you're using "Que'Fear" as a place name here ... that sounds familiar. Isn't that a character's name in the Green stories?
Hmmm ... and no one named McAllister in this one yet? :P
Que'fear is a place in 'Feredir' and oddly, it's the same place in 'Harvest Time'.
All will become clear as mud in time. ;)
McAllister? Hmm. I knew I'd forgotten someone!inmnxx
