Dental trauma and fear

Ha! Another cheery blog entry I hear you cry.

I bashed my middle tooth on a mug of coffee, and now I have to go and see a *shudder* Dentist. With most people that wouldn't be a problem. But I have a fear of Dentists that far surpasses logic.

When I was little (and cute - thought I'd mention it) We had a private Dentist called Donald Derrick who was a friend of the family. He used to drill and fill without anaesthetic, and when I'd start getting fractious he'd say: 'don't be a big baby'. I was. A big, big baby. Fair do's at nine years old. I defy anyone to sit happily being drilled without anaesthetic, nowadays.

Bastard.

Then at twelve I went to the woman in the surgery next door ... Anne Panting. It's strange how I remember their names. Much like the way you can't forget Hitler, probably. Anyway, she had me under a general anaesthetic, took out four back teeth (why?) and gave me braces. I hated braces.

Now, due to the complete lack of Dentists in the country that don't demand half your house, I'm probably going to end up cowering in the corner behind a plant pot whilst a large South African with a thick accent waves a drill at me.

Hmm ... Donald Derrick the Driller ... yes, I have heard of him. His first cousin was Vlad the Impaler, I believe. :P

And Anne Panting ... oh, I guess I should leave that one alone. :)

I had my wisdom teeth out around age 12 and then got braces. For some reason, the orthodontist thought it would help my remaining teeth to grow in right if those were gone. Nope, it didn't work. Don't get me started on the subject of braces. It has to do with my dysfunctional FOO (family of origin, that is).

As to the current problem you're having, I've got a bottle of whiskey and a hammer. Will that do?

Your fellow dentist-avoider,

Kitty

Ah! So that's where all my wisdom went. You'd think they'd be wanting to put them in.

Stupid only growing two sets of teeth, too. Three or four sets would be better ... but then Dentists would be out of a job.

I just noticed that you've created a blog entry category entitled "Dental Horror". I do hope you're not planning on making a series of these. :O

Hmm. Come to think of it, if you need a guest blogger to fill up (again, so to speak :P) this category, just let me know. Let's put it this way ... I must have had some serious dental karma to work out this time around.

*anxiously waiting to hear how it all came out ... er .. so to speak*
